Flavia’s 30-year teaching, research and commercialisation career has been focused on molecular microbiology, with a particular focus on human pathogens. Flavia brought together emerging technology in molecular microbiology, genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics to invent InfectID, a diagnostic test that identifies bacterial, fungal and viral pathogens. Flavia is inventor and co-inventor of a growing number of patents, four of which are related to InfectID, which is currently being commercialised by Microbio. Microbio’s initial product is InfectID-BSI, an In Vitro Diagnostic test designed to identify 26 sepsis-causing pathogens in less than three hours. Flavia has had substantial industry funding from the Australian Departments of Industry and Innovations, and Industry – Business and has published 92 peer-reviewed papers to date.
