Leo Zhang
Dr Le Zhang serves as a Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), having earned his PhD in Biomedical and Microbiology from the same institution in 2020. His doctoral research, conducted under the co-supervision of Distinguished Professors Dayong Jin and Antione van Oijen (UOW), alongside Professor Liz Harry, delved into the mechanisms of bacterial evolution of antibiotic resistance. Employing a range of interdisciplinary methodologies such as single-molecule microscopy, whole genome sequencing, and global transcription analysis, Dr. Zhang made a significant discovery. He identified the site-specific recombinase PinR as playing a pivotal role in the rapid evolution of antibiotic resistance, suggesting its potential as a drug target, a finding of paramount importance.
