Joanna Goldberg
Joanna B. Goldberg received her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of California, Berkeley, CA, USA. Her first academic position was an Instructor and then Assistant Professor at the Channing Laboratory, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA. She then moved as an Associate Professor and then was promoted to Full Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, USA. She is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, USA. Throughout her career her research has focused on the study of the molecular genetics, genomics, and physiology of bacterial pathogens associated with life-threatening lung infections, particularly respiratory infections in people living with cystic fibrosis.
In addition to her own research, Dr. Goldberg is strongly committed to training the next generation of scientists and strives to promote them to succeed in their chosen career paths. Thus far in her career, she has sponsored and trained 22 postdoctoral fellows (20 previous and 2 current) and 20 graduate students (18 previous and 2 current) in her laboratory.
