Many laboratories have implemented the Dermatophyte & Mould PCR into their repertoires; this talk focuses on complicated issues of this multiplex PCR.

Mycology departments around the country have been bound by conventional microscopy and culture for years, spending up to 5 weeks to finalise a result. In the last 12 months, many laboratories within Australia have implemented Dermatophyte & Mould Multiplex PCRs to assist and speed up turnaround times.

With the introduction of this test comes a myriad of issues. How can Medicare billing be used to support the new testing algorithm. What is the most efficient testing and reporting strategies and how can they be incorporated into multi-departments workflows? What happens with insufficient/inconsistent samples? What adaptations are required to collection devices to make them more PCR compatible? How to deal with low-level moulds, are they contaminants or pathogens?

What is the best way to incorporate all the different testing requirements & issues to make an effective algorithm? What solutions will assist the workflow? This talk will be a review of these issues from a SNP perspective.
